Void:
Funny enough, this was originally supposed to be the "chill ambient break" idea. The main progression is something I have been sitting on and jamming with for years now, having never recorded it other than as a video on my phone so I didn’t forget it. I think I was originally going to pitch this as a Periphery idea, but it didn't really fit the 'Periphery 4' vibe so it never really came up in the writing sessions. But it is something I have wanted to work on and flush out for a while now. I had always imagined it as this purely ambient piece with no real shift in dynamics, so it could act as a nice palate cleanser in the middle of an album. As I started to develop the idea further, I had an urge to hear the progression with a beat behind it and a step up the dynamics. I really liked the way that sat, so Mark and I just developed the song further from there. We accepted that this would no longer be just an interlude track, and that it would be a full-fledged song with its own vibe.  Although completely different in style and arrangement, I think this occupies a similar role that “Vectors” did on 'Viscera' by being the "different" song. This was also one of those ideas that just seemed to develop before my very eyes, almost like I was a passenger in the process watching it happen. That's usually a sign we are onto something kind of special.
